The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland to go on its first international tour in 10 years!
This summer, the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (NYOS) will undertake its first international tour in a decade, visiting Scotland, England and Germany. This will be the first time since 2016 that the orchestra has performed outside Scotland, and the first time since our 2015 China Tour that we have been abroad. We cannot wait to share our programme with audiences at home and further afield.
The tour will begin at Perth Concert Hall, with performances at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Saffron Hall in Essex followed by a finale at the Konzerthaus in Berlin. The programme will feature the world premiere of a new piece by Scottish composer Jay Capperauld, commissioned by NYOS specially for this tour. For this vibrant new work, titled Galvanic Dances, the orchestra will welcome the outstanding Scottish accordionist and BBC New Generation Artist Ryan Corbett as soloist.
NYOS Music Director Catherine Larsen-Maguire will conduct this thrilling programme, which also features This Midnight Hour by Anna Clyne and Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique. Catherine is based in Berlin and she cannot wait to introduce the orchestra to the Konzerthaus and its fantastic audiences.
“The NYOS Summer tour is an incredible opportunity for our young people to perform in concert halls across the UK and beyond, developing their musical and personal skills while making special memories that will last a lifetime. I am very much looking forward to performing this programme with NYOS, especially in my hometown of Berlin, where I know the German audience will give us a very warm welcome.”
Catherine Larsen-Maguire, NYOS Music Director
Participating in a youth orchestra can have a significant impact on a young person; from the development of musicianship to the wider social impact of working as a team with peers and developing friendships that can last a lifetime. Participation also strengthens broader skills such as resilience, presentation and confidence. We know this will only be elevated by the opportunity to go on tour.
Tickets are currently on sale for the following concerts:
Perth Concert Hall | 1 August
Liverpool Philharmonic Hall | 2 August
Tickets for our matinee performance at Saffron Hall on Sunday 3 August will go on sale shortly, and further details on our Berlin concert will be confirmed in early April. Watch this space!
This summer is set to be a very exciting one for our NYOS orchestra. Keep up to date with everything by following us on socials or signing up to our newsletter, and we look forward to seeing you at a NYOS concert soon.
