Eligibility
Our courses provide outstanding orchestral education and performance opportunities for young musicians aged 11 to 22 with Scottish connections.
You are eligible to apply to NYOS if you meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Born in Scotland
- Living in Scotland
- Studying in Scotland
- Have a Scottish family connection

NYOS Orchestras
NYOS accepts applications from all standard orchestral instruments including concert pedal harp.
Our guidelines are as follows:
NYOS (aged 14-22): Grade 8+ or equivalent
NYOS Development (aged 11-18): Grade 5-8 or equivalent
Please note that grades are used as guidelines. Exam qualifications are not required to apply to either ensemble.
Auditions are free and course bursaries of up to 100% are available.
No young person who successfully auditions for any NYOS ensemble will miss out due to financial circumstances.

Other Courses
NYOS Academy (aged 9-14): Grade 2-5 or equivalent
NYOS Academy accepts applications from all standard orchestral instruments including concert pedal harp.
Applications for NYOS Academy are currently closed and will open in early 2026.
