Since 1979, the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) has been providing young instrumentalists in Scotland with unforgettable training and performance experiences. Today, NYOS has more opportunities than ever before for keen young musicians.

  • Do you want to perform in orchestral ensembles at the highest national level?
  • Are you an aspiring musician who wants to improve your ensemble skills?
  • Do you want to learn from world-class professional musicians and work alongside renowned soloists and conductors?
  • Do you want to meet like-minded young people with a passion for great music?
  • Are you aged between 8 and 25 and have links to Scotland?

If you do, then NYOS would like to hear from you!

Just complete one application form per instrument to be considered for all NYOS classical orchestras. Following your application, you will receive an automated email with instructions on how to submit your recorded audition. If you have not received this, then please contact us.

If successful at the audition stage, you will be offered a place in a specific NYOS ensemble.

All applicants must submit a recorded audition.

Auditions are free, with bursaries available for participants who find it difficult to meet the costs of course fees.

If anything is currently preventing you from applying to or auditioning for NYOS please do let us know. Whether it is lack of access to a musical instrument, a suitable device, or poor internet connection, we can help. We understand the obstacles young musicians may face and will endeavour to accommodate all applicants needs as best we can.

Please email us, in the strictest of confidence, via if you require any additional support.

Good luck!
