The Great Wave

Theatre Royal, Glasgow
Orchestra: Scottish Opera
Language: Sung in English with English supertitles
A very special opportunity to see the dress rehearsal of Scottish Opera’s The Great Wave – a world premiere production telling the extravagant story of artist Katsushika Hokusai and his famous woodblock print The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Japanese composer Dai Fujikura and Scottish librettist Harry Ross create a mesmerising musical drama that showcases the series of events that ignites The Great Wave off Kanagawa phenomena, influencing pop art culture today. Directed by Satoshi Miyagi and featuring Stuart Stratford conducting The Orchestra of Scottish Opera – with the unique addition of the rich historic sounds of a Japanese shakuhachi-flute - and The Chorus of The Great Wave vividly representing the collaborative nature of Edo-era printmaking. This promises to be a very special production and one not to be missed.
If you would like to register your interest in attending the concert, please complete our online form here by Tuesday 3 February.
