NYOS commission wins 2025 European Composition Award
We are delighted that Jay Capperauld has been awarded the 2025 European Composition Award by the audience jury of Young Euro Classic. Galvanic Dances, commissioned by NYOS, was recognised by the adjudication panel as the best premiere at this summer’s festival and we are extremely proud to help represent Jay’s incredible work on the world stage.
Speaking about their decision, the audience jury remarked:
"The composer has his own musical language, which sounds very person, tinged with black humour and strong dramaturgy. The combination of instruments (solo accordion and orchestra) is original and felicitous. The orchestra is not relegated to the role of accompaniment; instead, accordion and orchestra merge, sounding like a crazy, infernal organ, which is absolutely to the theme of Frankenstein."
If you missed the livestream of NYOS's performance at Young Euro Classic 2025, you can still watch it on the Arte website - https://www.arte.tv/en/videos/127071-005-A/scottish-national-youth-orchestra/
NYOS would like to thank the Richard Chester Creativity Fund and the Vaughan Williams Foundation, whose generous support helped to make the commission of Galvanic Dances a reality.
