The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland
Formed to meet the growing demand for high quality training for young jazz musicians in Scotland, The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland (NYJOS) made its debut in 1996, under the direction of Richard Michael, and has since become known as one of Scotland's foremost youth jazz ensembles.
Under the direction of Malcolm Edmonstone and Andrew Bain, NYJOS aims to provide students with the opportunity to study and perform jazz at the highest possible level, with respected professional musicians from the UK and beyond.
The ensemble often commissions and premières new works. In addition to giving live performances at a variety of prestigious jazz venues throughout Britain, NYJOS has released CD recordings and runs training workshops throughout Scotland.
NYJOS's recent concert at the Tolbooth, Stirling received rave reviews from The Herald and The Scotsman:
The Herald - Review by Rob Adams
The Scotsman - Review by Kenny Mathieson
