The National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland (NYJOS) is a project of The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland. The first NYOS Summer Jazz Course was held in 1992 for young Scottish musicians aged from 12 to 21 years. NYJOS has performed in venues from The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen; The Old Fruitmarket, Glasgow; the Edinburgh Fringe and the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival; Perth Concert Hall and The Sage Gateshead.
NYJOS has progressed at a remarkable rate since its inception, reflecting the wealth of innovation and skill that Scotland's talented young musicians possess.
NYJOS meets each year for a Summer Course followed by public performances. The NYJOS Training Course also accommodates extra training groups and ensembles for students on the verge of entry to NYJOS.

In 2006 NYJOS released a new CD recording, featuring American big band favourites and music by great Scottish composers, including Duncan Lamont's Carnival of the Animals and Scotland Suite, a NYOS commission by Malcolm Edmonstone, with Andrew Bain as soloist. The CD is available from NYOS on T 0141 3328311 or at the NYOS online shop.
