Colin Currie becomes Patron of NYOS Senior Orchestra

19.06.2015

Colin is a solo and chamber artist at the peak of his powers. Championing new music at the highest level, he is the soloist of choice for many of today’s foremost composers and performs regularly with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors.

"Joining NYOS aged 13, in 1990, was a pivotal musical experience for me. The thrill of the orchestra, its collective endeavour, its drive and spirit were all utterly captivating for me and fired my imagination. Thousands of young musicians have passed through the same inspirational transformation and many more have heard their music in concert. Nothing is more artistically enlivening than these kinds of adventures and I am delighted to be made Patron of their Senior Orchestra” Colin Currie, Percussionist

“I always believe it is important to have the right role model as Patron of any organisation and therefore, I am delighted that Colin Currie has accepted the invitation to become Patron of NYOS Senior Orchestra.   Since being a member of NYOS himself, Colin has forged a career to become one of the world's finest and busiest percussionists, winner of numerous prestigious awards and with many compositions written especially for him. What better role model could the young musicians of NYOS Senior Orchestra wish for” Joan Gibson, NYOS Chief Executive & Artistic Director
